Nagano has a rich agricultural history. The fertile soil in the valleys of the Japanese Alps is ideal for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables. Produce grown in Southern Shinshu has the benefit of drawing fresh mountain water and crisp, clean air. Drastic temperature changes also make it hardy, flavorful, and nutritious. Myojinkan has its own higland gardens, where workers grow food expressly for guests of the inn. In the summer months, families can visit the gardens for a hands-on experience.
