Akita Locals Can Hold Their Liquor
Akita locals are reputed to drink like fish. The rest of Japan sees them as heavy drinkers of sake. Acetaldehyde dehydrogenase is the enzyme that helps break down alcohol. Whereas the national average of this enzyme count is 50, the average in Akita is 70, making Akita locals the most alcohol tolerant in all of Japan.
