Akita: A Heaven For Festivals

Regardless of the season, there is always a festival taking place in Akita; the Kanto Festival and Kemanai Bonodori Dance Festival in summer; the Yokote Kamakura Snow Hut Festival and the Oga Namahage Festival in winter. Akita is a nest for festivals especially during the summer months. In northeastern Japan, the locals make the most of the short summer and often gather outdoors to celebrate. There are also many festivals based on Tanabata (star festival), which is always celebrated in the summer.
