Samboa Gion

Founded in 1918, Samboa was a bar in the Kansai region’s port city, Kobe. The original bar has long been closed; however, its disciples have continued using the name. Currently, Samboa has over 10 bars in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, with each bar having its distinct character. Over the years, Samboa Gion has built its reputation as a high-quality bar frequented by writers, actors and other celebrities who appreciate its classic atmosphere. The handcrafted curtain at the entrance was made by an artist who was a regular at the bar.

The bar’s traditional appearance is fitting to the Gion area – Kyoto’s main geisha district, and customers are invited to come just to take a look. Why not enjoy an evening here with an exquisite martini served by staff wearing beautiful kimonos?
