Kongo Buji

Kongo Buji, the principal pavilion and head temple of Shingon Buddhism, was constructed in 1593 by shogun Hideyoshi Toyotomi in memory of his mother. Highlights include vast tatami rooms encompassed by golden sliding doors, the largest rock garden in Japan with boulders representing dragons emerging from a sea of clouds, and a sizeable kitchen with cauldrons that used to cook 100 kg of rice.
