The Best Wasabi in Japan- Amagi Wasabi

Wasabi is native to places with clean, cool waters. Two types of Wasabi are cultivated- Sawa; grown in the water of Amagi and Land; which is grown in the fields. Shizuoka boasts the highest production rates in Japan of both types of Wasabi. Sawa cultivation requires a constant supply of clean water, along with soil of exceptional permeability, such as sand. Amagi has water from springs located 1000 metres under Mt Amagi, and the surrounding trees that block the sun provide ideal conditions. Starting in 1745, Izu’s Wasabi production is known throughout Japan for it’s high quality produce. The Wasabi fields, full of pure spring water are beautiful to behold and are a stunning example of Japanese village landscape.
